General Submission Guidelines and Policies
Update: We are currently not accepting any more submissions for the remainder of 2008. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please check with us in 2009 for any status changes.
We
prefer novels between 95,000 and 150,000 words, although we
occasionally accept longer works. We work with new and established
authors. Your novel should be complete (not a
work-in-progress) and have already undergone extensive editing
and revisions.
Things to Keep in Mind Before Submitting Sample Chapters 1. The first two chapters of your book should be in standard
manuscript format (margins of at least 1 inch all the way around;
indented paragraphs; double-spaced text; and Times Roman font, size
12) on white paper. (If
your chapters are really short or very long, or you don't use chapter
breaks, you may send the first 40-60 pages of your book, provided you
stay under 10,000 words.)
2. Do not bind the partial manuscript in any way.
Make sure the header includes both your name and the title of
the book, as well as the page number on every page.
3. Include a synopsis of the entire book.
The synopsis should include all important plot elements,
especially the end of the story, as well as aspects of character
development for your main characters. Please do not leave out important details; the editor needs a
clear understanding of the story in order to decide if your novel is a
good fit for Apollo House Press. The synopsis should run between three
and ten pages in standard manuscript format.
4. Include a query letter with the date, that includes your name
and contact information and the title of the submitted work.
Briefly tell us what genre or subgenre the submission falls
into and mention any qualifications you have that pertain to the work.
Please list any previous publications in paying markets.
5. Don’t forget to include a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope for our reply letter.
NOTE: Apollo House Press is not responsible for submissions lost or damaged in transit.
Mail Submissions To: Editorial
Fiction Apollo
House Press reviews manuscripts—only if the following steps are
followed: 1.
Author sends Apollo House Press a query
letter, synopsis, and no more than two sample chapters (the
first two chapters). 2.
If interested, Apollo House Press may request additional
chapters, or the entire manuscript for review. If Apollo House Press
is not interested, no further materials will be requested.
Apollo
House Press may review manuscripts without the required query letter
and sample chapters only if the manuscript has been submitted
by professional literary agents, Apollo House Press authors, authors
known to us from other publishers, or other people in the publishing
industry.
Nonfiction Apollo House Press does not accept unsolicited nonfiction manuscripts. However, Apollo House Press may review nonfiction manuscripts submitted by professional literary agents, Apollo House Press authors, authors known to us from other publishers, or other people in the publishing industry. Because Apollo House Press specializes in science fiction and fantasy, nonfiction submission submitted to us from the parties mentioned above should be on topics that compliment the science fiction/fantasy genre—such as medieval history, or space exploration. We return manuscripts to their authors only if adequate postage and a return mailer are provided. If return postage is not provided we will respond only if interested.
